20x Triplet Hexagon Loupe

This 20X loupe contains three bonded lenses which are highly corrected for spherical and chromatic aberrations. Because this loupe has three lenses it can be called a triplet loupe. 20X loupes are not used by gemologists for diamond grading. Diamond grading is done with 10X triplet loupes. 20X loupes are used primarily for viewing laser inscriptions on girdles and any other inspection tasks where the added magnification is useful.

Please know that due to the law of optics all 20x loupes have very small fields of focus and depths of fields-no matter what the diameter of the lens is. As magnification increases, the area that is in focus decreases so the area in focus for a 20X loupe is much smaller than it is for a 10X loupe. One other thing to keep in mind is that even though the lens of this 20x hexagon shaped loupe is 20.5mm in diameter, it will have the exact same area in focus as a 18mm 20x loupe.
