How to Use

  1. Sprinkle a small amount of borax into the crucible before charging metal to help glaze and protect the surface.
  2. Add a pinch to the melt as needed to maintain a clean, glassy cover while heating.
  3. For crucible conditioning, coat the hot crucible interior with a light layer of borax and rotate to distribute.

Applications

  • Melting and pouring ingots
  • General casting operations
  • Crucible preparation and maintenance

Notes

Borax vs. Boric Acid: They are two different formulations related to boron chemistry. Borax is a naturally occurring mineral used here as a casting flux; boric acid is a refined derivative. Both can be used during melting to help clean metal and may be mixed for certain shop practices, including crucible prep.

Use appropriate PPE — gloves, eye protection, and fume management — when melting and pouring. Avoid inhalation of dust; keep container closed when not in use. Follow your foundry and crucible manufacturer's recommendations.
