Product Details

Here is a great way to try out the 3 different types of Ferris File-A-Wax milling waxes. This sample pack has various slices for you to try out on your milling machine or with traditional wax tools.

Contains Samples of 3 Different Milling Wax Types:

Ferris Turquoise: File-A-Wax was designed to bridge the hand-carving/CAD-CAM gap. Ferris® Turquoise! Ferris Turquoise features the excellent high-speed CNC machining properties of FerrisGold combined with the superior hand-carvability of Ferris Blue. If you own a milling system or do hand carving you will want to give Ferris Turquoise a try.

For Hand Carving:
It reams easily and processing is very smooth. It displays an exceptional surface finish, especially in recessed areas. The viscosity is great for building up. Roughing out models is easier with Turquoise because it doesn’t clog tools such as rotary files. It responds well to hand files and sandpaper.

For Milling:
As a milling wax it displays superior strength, toughness and flexibility. It is not brittle making it very forgiving when milling the smallest details like prongs. It also produces minimal swarfing that brushes off easily.

Ferris Gold (Also called Wolf Milling Wax or Wolf Gold): Today’s milling machines demand a wax that can withstand extremely high rotational speeds, possess the toughness to be machined into thin sections and clean up quickly and easily. Wolf Milling Wax delivers on all these counts. Before Wolf Gold was developed, waxes were just too brittle, so they broke or chipped easily when milled into thin sections. Possessing high pliability and toughness, Wolf Milling Wax can be milled into ultra-thin cross sections with the most intricate details and minimal tool path residue. Resulting wax models clean up easily and burn out completely.

When finished, wax models produced from Wolf Milling Wax exhibit a gold-like tone that is easy to read and helpful in visualizing how the finished pieces will look when cast. As a bonus, it has proven to be an excellent hand carving wax as well.

Ferris Orange (Also called Wizard Wax):
Wizard Wax, (now called Ferris® File-A-Wax® Orange) is made specifically for milling machines. It was developed after Wolf Milling Wax and is the hardest of all the Ferris waxes. It can stand up to the high spindle speeds found on modern milling machines, leaving behind a superior surface finish while still being able to burnout. This wax is harder than Ferris green carving wax, but it is not as brittle, so you can mill the finest details with less concern for breakage. Wizard Wax also works great for conventional wax carving.
