Product Details

This is the large Fretz rounded wide raising hammer HMR-109, it is a classic shape and weight (185 grams) for vessel raising. With a handle length of 250mm (9-7/8") and a hammer head length of 100mm (4"). The hardened stainless steel heads are polished to perfection, and the rosewood handles have a special finish that feels downright sensual. No kidding, the rosewood handles are finished so well that they just plain feel good in you hand. The balance is perfect, and the polished stainless steel surface is exceptional.

Here is what Bill Fretz has to say about Raising:

Raising is the compression of metal down to the stake without stretching it. The trick is to angle the metal off the stake so that there is an air gap for the compression. The Wide Raising Hammer can be used to raise sheet metal into a bowl against a wooden stake or a metal t-stake. It is also useful for raising in cylinders to form a concave shape. The Wide Raising hammer also makes it possible to planish subtle concave shapes. The size of the hammer will be dictated by the size of the work. Small light projects will use the mini hammers and the larger work will demand the large hammers. The concepts of what they do are the same.

This Fretz plannishing hammer 109 is beautifully crafted with a nice hand feel.
The polished hammer heads are very smooth leaving a non-marring finish on the metal piece.
