Product Details

This is The Swiss Torch System including the compressed air casting head for use with propane or natural gas and compressed air.  All other heads supplied with this kit use propane or natural gas and oxygen.

Manufactured in Switzerland, the Swiss Torch is the most popular jeweler's torch used in Europe. Craftsmen favor it for its balance, precision and versatility. The Swiss Torch is four torches in one. First, it is a repair torch with a Hoke style head familiar to North American jewelers. Second, it is a microhead torch, a precision torch with 3 different hypodermic tips for precise soldering and welding. Third, it is a platinum torch, with a special tip that produces a hotter flame for melting and casting a small amount of platinum. Finally, it is a casting torch, with your choice of oxy/gas or compressed air/gas torch heads. The Swiss Torch works best with Propane or Natural Gas. The Swiss Torch is not for use with Acetylene. The Microhead and the Hoke style head can be used with Hydrogen.

114.117 System with Compressed Air Casting Head:

Only the Compressed Air Casting Head Uses Propane or Natural Gas/Compressed Air in this kit.  All the other component heads in this kit are for use with Propane or Natural Gas/Oxygen.

This kit includes:

114.109 The Swiss Torch Body
114.112 The Swiss Torch Micro Head with 3 Tips
114.113 The Swiss Torch Hoke Style Head with 3 Tips
114.116 The Swiss Torch Platinum Head
114.114 The Swiss Torch Compressed Air Casting Head

This Swiss Torch System does not include the 114.114SMALL Compressed Air bent 90 degree head which is available separately.

The compressed air casting torch uses compressed air and gas, and is not made for use with oxygen. If used with oxygen, the tip will be damaged.  Using compressed air and gas has several advantages for use as a casting torch, and is commonly used in Europe.  A compressed air flame has less oxygen to burn, so it's not as hot as using pure oxygen-however, it's still plenty hot enough to do the job. Compressed air/gas also produces a larger, bushier flame that covers your crucible completely and doesn't add as much oxidation possibilities that a pure oxygen/gas melt can.

The Micro Head is recommended for use with an Oxygen output of between 0.5 to 0.2 Bar ( 7.25 to 3 PSI)

The Hoke Style Head is recommended for use with an oxygen output of between 0.5 to 0.2 Bar (7.25 to 3 PSI)

Use this compressed air casting torch head with 2 Bar (30 PSI) of compressed air.

The recommended pressure settings with the Platinum Head are as follows:

  • Oxygen 1.5 Bar (21 PSI)
  • Propane .5 Bar (7 PSI)
