Product Details

The 8" Bench Shears are imported from India where we have been continuing to find the greatest values in good quality jeweler tools.  Manufacturing techniques have been steadily improving in that part of the world and we think these particular shear are good examples of sturdy and well-made tools that will give years of service at a very fair price.  Cutting blades are made from high temper carbon steel and can cut plates up to 10 Ga. (0.100”/2.6mm) thick. Blade lengths of 8" will cut a maximum length of material of approximately 5-3/4”.  Hole in side is for cutting rods of material up to 3/8" in diameter.  Adjustable support rod can assist in holding sheet in position for cuts.  Extra-long 24" handle helps for cutting thicker metals.  The footprint of the 8" bench shear is 14" x 5-1/2" and with handle extended the shear measures 34" tall.    Shear it must be securely mounted to a bench for proper use. Mounting will require 4 nuts and bolts.  Mounting hardware not included.  Generic Instructions for use can be found online by searching for bench shear instructions

While not as precise as guillotine style bench shears, this style of long handle bench shears are better for quickly cutting smaller pieces of thicker material.  Longer cuts on sheets need to be carefully executed to achieve straight cuts.

With a few modifications, it works like a charm.

I had high hopes when I found this shear and with a few modifications, it works like a charm. When I first saw it in front of me, I was shocked by the huge handle. With the shear on the floor, the handle came higher than my waist. Whoosh! I took it to my local steel fabricator and he shortened the handle, added a steel ledge to lay my sheet on with a ruler and built a steel table that secured to the floor and held my rolling mill on the opposite end and it is now one of my favorite helpers in my shop. He only charged me $60.00 for all of it. What a deal. It cuts super easy and clean and on the mark every time.
