Product Details

The Paragon SC3 Programmable Kiln is available with 3 different door versions: Standard Door, Bead Door and Bead Door with Glass Window. Besides stocking in standard North American 120V, we also stock the Standard Door and the Bead Door versions in 220V. The Standard Door version is for casting burnouts, The Bead Door version is for casting burnouts and PMC Clay and the Combo Bead Door with Glass Window adds enameling functionality. All versions share the same efficient ceramic fiber chamber contained in a steel inner case, allowing for the circulation of air between the inner case and the vented steel outer case. This keeps the outer case cool during use, protecting the electrical components beneath the chamber and most importantly, keeps energy costs down. Chamber dimensions are 8” wide by 7-3/4” deep by 7-3/4” high.

The Paragon SC3 Programmable kiln with bead door and window is perfect for both precious metal clay and glass bead use. The added window is made of high temperature glass and measures 1" x 3" (always wear firing safety glasses when viewing the kiln interior). This popular kiln can also be used for enameling, stain glass and ceramic glazing. You can even use it for wax burnout, as this is the same kiln as the basic SC3 but for the addition of the bead door and window.

The SC-3, for a digital kiln, is surprisingly affordable. It fires automatically at the rate and temperature you enter. A large, easy to see display prompts for firing rate, temperature and hold time. The controller is easy to use, and you can create and store up to 4 programs on it. Detailed instructions are included for the kiln and the controller.

2nd great Paragon buy ...

I have a Paragon pottery / glass fusing kiln as well. Have had that for 6 - 7 years. It has always worked great. That and my SC3 are 220 volt units. This SC3 also works great. The controller is very similar to the larger Sentry controller, just without the numeric keypad. So if you have worked with a Sentry before this should be no problem. Even if you haven't I think they are easy to program. The instructions are good too. It will accommodate one 4 inch flask and one 3 3/8 inch flask at the same time. The wax tray is a must for dewaxing. Also, you'll need some short 3/8 - 1/2 inch tall ceramic posts to put the wax tray up on. I believe this is so it does not overheat and so it does not poke holes in the insulation. A few small unglazed tile bits should work if you can't get the posts. I s'pose some 1/2 in stainless washers or nuts would work too. You may see some negative posts our there on the electrical ratings of the Paragon products. My experience is that if you follow Paragon's recommendations, you will be totally fine in practice. If in doubt, a good electrician will usually provide a consultation for $100 - $200 for your particular electrical system. Like anything else if you are told you need a better circuit, verify that with a 2nd or 3rd opinion.
