147.721 - Foredom's new RT101 direct drive Rotary Tumbler is excellent for burnishing gold, silver, copper, brass and other metals.

This brand new rotary tumbler from Foredom is universal voltage (100-240 volt). Our version is sold with a standard North American plug but you can use a plug adapter for any outlet for any country no matter what your local voltage is, 110V or 220V.

This compact rotary tumbler has programmable controls and digital speed display for repeatable processes. You can set the timer, choose the direction of the rotation and select from 20 levels of speed control ranging from 5 to 100 rpm. An average work cycle duration is 180 minutes long.

This is a compact machine with a barrel that can take up to 2.2 lbs (1 kg) of media plus another 7 ounces (200 grams) of work load. The barrel is rated at 1.16 quarts (1 liter) of capacity. The see thru barrel interior measures 3" diameter by 6" in length.

The Foredom RT101 Rotary Tumbler is a direct drive power machine, so there are never any belts to replace!

Use with our stainless steel mixed shot 147.795 and one of our liquid or powdered burnishing compounds depending on the work you are doing. You can also use with our ceramic ball medias.

What is Rotary Tumbling? Rotary tumbling is a proven mass finishing technique for burnishing or cutting surfaces. Effects are achieved over a period of several hours or even days, as tumbling is the slowest of all the mass finishing techniques, but capacity for dollar spent is the greatest. Use steel media with detergent compounds to burnish and work-harden pieces or use plastic media with detergents for aggressive cut-down.

Pros:
Shines and Burnishes Surfaces

Cons:
Slowest mass finishing technique. Not for final polish on broad flat surfaces.

147.795 - The Low Maintenance Media!-Sold by the Pound:

Stainless Steel Shot is the ideal choice of media for burnishing. Our tempered stainless steel shot is Made in the USA and will impart a uniform scratch free work hardened surface on all metals. Steel shot requires more attention than stainless steel shot, as regular steel shot must be cleaned and stored in a protective solution after every use or it will rust and be ruined. Stainless steel shot is more expensive, but it requires only the occasional cleaning. Otto Frei's stainless steel mixed shot is a combination of balls, pins and diagonals.

Stainless Steel Shot works great in rotating tumblers and in the proper vibratory tumbler. Be sure to check your vibratory tumbler's weight capacity before using steel shot in it, as some vibratory tumblers do not have enough weight capacity to handle the correct amount (1/2 to 3/4 full) of steel shot.

147.772 - Otto MF610 Magnetic Tumbler Concentrated Solution:

Otto MF 610 is a mildly acidic finishing product for high speed burnishing, tumbling and burnishing applications using magnetic needles. Great for use on gold, silver and platinum, as well as all non-ferrous metals like copper, aluminum, zinc and nickel silver. This is the best product we have found for use in magnetic tumblers for producing bright and shiny results will all precious metals. Otto MF 610 will also keep your magnetic shot in great condition. Mix 3 to 6oz. Per Gallon Water. Made in the U.S.A.

Detergent compounds are used with cutting media and serve to suspend grit and grime in the solution that otherwise would make your parts dirty. Burnishing compounds are used with steel shot and do the same thing except they also help keep the shot clean and conditioned.
