Vallorbe Swiss Machinist-Engineers Files-Hand LQ5010-Cuts 1-2

These Swiss made Vallorbe machinists or engineers flat Hand Files are double cut. 

Machinist files (also called Engineers files) are made to a lower standard than Jewelers Precision files. Cuts are less refined and the dimensions are different than the more expensive Precision files.  They are for working in industrial applications where precision is secondary to expediency. 

 

A Machinist file Bastard cut (marked 1) is coarser than a jewelers file marked 1. A Machinist file will have slightly different dimensions than a Jewelers Precision file. Lengths on Machinist files are measured from the top or point of the file to the point when the tang begins to angle up to the heel. Lengths on Jewelers Precision files are measured from the top or point of the file to the point where the heel begins to angle down to the heel.
