This Vallorbe Swiss machinist files set includes one each of second cut (2nd cut) files in half round, three square, round and one Bastard cut hand file. All come with fitted handles mounted in a durable Vallorbe Swiss storage grey pouch.  

Machinist files (also called Engineers files) are cheaper files used for general purpose industrial use. These are not jewelers files, having only a double cut across the diagonal and are not recommended for fine jewelry use. These are the types of files that are used by mechanics, engineers, and other trades for quickly removing hard metals. The Vallorbe ECO Range of Machinist files are the cheapest files (ECO for economical) you can get from Vallorbe, and they are not made in Switzerland.  

Machinist files have a different cut ratings than jewelers files, which are also refereed to as precision files or Swiss pattern files. Machinist files are based on an American standard, and have names like first cut (marked Bastard cut) and second cut (marked 2nd cut). Bastard cut is similar to a jewelers cut 00, and Second cut is between a jewelers cut 0 and cut 1.   

This makes for a good set of files for any metal smith that works in a wide variety of metals and needs larger files for quickly finishing hard metals. Great for doing larger scale projects as these files are essential tools for the well provisioned work shop.
