Description

A chasing hammer drives punches for hours at a stretch, so the grip matters as much as the head: this pistol grip lets the hand relax, the wrist stay straight, and the shoulder drop naturally, and its whipping action carries light through medium-heavy strokes with precise control.

Nechamkin and Otto Frei teamed up with a partner manufacturer to build the Nechamkin Otto Frei Pistol Grip Chasing Hammer to Liza Nechamkin's exacting specifications, made by highly skilled and experienced craftspeople.

The handles are cut from hand-selected cherry wood, carefully shaped into the signature pistol grip form, and sanded by hand within very close tolerances. Each handle receives a hand-rubbed oil finish that produces a rich color and satiny surface. Heads are fitted to their handles one by one and manually secured with a hand-cut hardwood wedge in the traditional manner.

The head is precision-made from high-carbon 440C stainless tool steel. Weighing 3 ounces, the hand-finished head carries a 30 mm diameter face and is laser-engraved with the Nechamkin and Otto Frei trademarks. The stainless steel construction provides excellent rust resistance, and each head is certified at 57 Rockwell hardness for maximum toughness and durability.
