Description
This plate turns flat strip stock into seamless tubing at the bench, without buying tube in every diameter a job calls for. It carries 18 holes ranging from 3.0mm to 10.0mm, so one plate covers a range that would otherwise take several standard round wire drawplates.
To use it, trim one end of a metal strip to a point and draw it through one of the larger holes. Keep drawing through progressively smaller holes until a seam forms along the length of the strip. Solder the seam, and the tubing is finished and ready to use.
The plate is intentionally engineered with larger steps between holes than a standard wire drawplate, and that is what makes it work for tube forming: the bigger increments encourage the metal to curl and close into a tube rather than simply reduce in diameter. Forming tubing on conventional round wire drawplates is possible, but it typically takes at least three separate plates to do what this one does. It is made in the U.S.A. from steel.
