The Presidium Gem Tester II (PGT II) gives jewelers and gemologists fast, laboratory-proven answers to the questions that come up every day: diamond or moissanite, ruby or garnet, sapphire or tanzanite, emerald or jadeite. This professional-grade color stone estimator takes human error out of gem identification by measuring the rate at which each gemstone type conducts heat, a physical property unique to the stone.

Touch the thermoelectric probe to the surface of a stone and the calibrated dial shows the relative heat conductivity of the material, allowing rapid identification across the most popular precious gemstone families. The PGT II is the latest generation of the Presidium Gem Tester and introduces an updated, easier-to-read display along with a new Diamond/Moissanite indicator. Because moissanite conducts heat at a rate identical to diamond, the updated dial alerts you when a stone falls within that range, signaling that additional visual testing is required to separate the two.

Moissanite can be identified visually using a 10x loupe, as moissanite exhibits double refraction. Diamond does not.

Notes

The Presidium Gem Tester II cannot distinguish between diamond and moissanite by thermal conductivity alone, because both materials conduct heat at the same rate. When a stone tests in the Diamond/Moissanite range, inspect it with a 10x loupe: moissanite displays double refraction under magnification and diamond does not.
