Silver Wire Solders-Extra Easy, Easy, Med & Hard-1/4 Oz. Coils

Silver wire solder feeds a joint by the inch, which suits pick soldering and any seam where a measured length of solder beats a cut chip. Choose from four temperature flow points for hard (torch) soldering, also known as brazing, on silver jewelry and metalwork. Each coil weighs approximately 1/4 ounce (5 DWT), measures approximately 4-1/2 feet in length, and is formed from round wire 0.032 inch (0.8mm) in diameter, equivalent to 20 gauge. Coils are sold individually.

The designations Extra Easy, Easy, Medium, and Hard describe the relative temperature flow points within this solder family. Extra Easy flows at the lowest temperature, progressing upward through Easy and Medium to Hard at the highest. Generally, higher flow point temperatures correspond to higher silver content, which can improve color match to silver and theoretically produce a stronger bond. Flow point designations are relative within a line, so one maker's Medium may flow at the same temperature as another maker's Hard.

Which grade should you use? When manufacturing, use the highest temperature (Hard) solder available so that subsequent repairs can be made with lower temperature solders. When making repairs, use the lowest temperature (Extra Easy) solder possible, since the grade used previously is typically unknown.
