Escapement files, also called watchmakers' files, are narrower and thinner than standard needle files and are built for the most delicate and precise filing at the bench. Every escapement file features a square handle and measures 5½" (14 cm) in total length from tip to handle end. The millimeter measurement always refers to the cut length, the length of the toothed portion, not the overall tip-to-tip length.
