A hand checkering file cuts clean, uniform serrations and traditional checkered patterns into a metal surface, which makes it the file to reach for on knife edges, gun-style grip patterns, and detailed surface texturing. The Glardon-Vallorbe LP1166 is parallel in width and gently tapered in thickness, so it tracks straight through a pattern, and its checkering tooth geometry is rated in lines per square inch so a cut grade can be matched to the pattern density the job calls for. Made in Switzerland by Glardon-Vallorbe.
Each file is machine cut and hand finished in heat-tempered chrome alloy steel, 19 mm (3/4") wide with a maximum thickness of 5.3 mm (3/16"), and is supplied with a tang rather than a handle. Stated length covers the toothed section only, so a 6" file measures roughly 8 1/2" overall including the tang. The shape is offered in 6" and 8" lengths in cut grades 00 through 2, from 20 LPSI at the coarsest to 50 LPSI at the finest.
