Description
Boric acid powder, technical grade, works as a casting flux and deoxidizing agent that keeps metal clean while you melt and pour at the bench. Use it as a general casting powder and flux or for crucible preparation and maintenance. Packaged as a powder in a one-pound (1 lb) box.
Features
- Controls oxidation during melting and casting
- Helps produce cleaner pours with fewer inclusions
- Use alone or mix with borax for tailored flux behavior
- Suitable for crucible prep and maintenance
- Technical grade powder, sold in a 1 lb (0.45 kg) box
Notes
How to use:
- Sprinkle a small amount into the crucible or onto the melt to create a protective layer.
- For crucible conditioning, warm the crucible and rotate it to coat the interior surfaces.
- Blend with borax as needed to adjust flow, wetting, and oxidation control.
Borax vs. boric acid: Both are related boron compounds used in melting and crucible preparation. Borax is a naturally occurring mineral, and boric acid is a refined derivative. Each can be used alone as flux, or the two can be mixed together to combine benefits for melting and crucible prep.
Use appropriate PPE, including gloves and eye protection. Avoid inhaling dust and keep the container closed when not in use. Follow foundry and crucible manufacturer recommendations for safe handling.
