Description

A round ceramic fiber file is a thin rod a jeweler runs in a handpiece to finish and polish filigree, tight corners, and other places a wheel or brush cannot reach. Ceraton round ceramic fiber files offer a revolutionary approach to finishing and polishing hard-to-reach areas in jewelry and metalsmithing work. These rods are constructed from ceramic and glass fibers bonded with a thermosetting resin, producing a thin, rigid polishing rod with exceptional tensile strength that resists snapping or breaking even at high rotational speeds. Made in Japan.

Each rod measures 2.34 mm (3/32") in diameter and 50 mm (2") in length, with a round cross-section tapered toward the point and a plain tang, so no handle is supplied. Nine color-coded grits run from 180 for aggressive stock removal through 1200 for fine polishing, and each grit is ordered as its own part number.

Ceraton rods can be used whole by hand or broken to create small custom tools. Dress them with diamond wheels, such as the 110.175 or 110.180, to form custom profiles ideal for tight corners, filigree holes, and intricate detail work. Tips can also be shaped using abrasive paper for further customization.
