Description
The Ultra White 9–18 Investment Casting Master Alloy is a nickel-based white gold master alloy formulated for investment casting and fabrication applications across 10K, 14K, and 18K gold. Sold by the troy ounce (20 pennyweights / 31.1 grams), this alloy contains no gold and is designed to be pre-alloyed with fine gold before casting. Note that proprietary metals are present in the formulation in addition to the listed composition, and the alloy may also contain silicon and deoxidizers.
Features
- Compatible with 10K, 14K, and 18K white gold casting applications
- Suitable for both investment casting and fabrication
- Contains no gold — pre-alloy with fine gold prior to casting
- May also contain silicon and deoxidizers in addition to listed composition
- Sold by the troy ounce (20 pennyweights / 31.1 grams)

Notes
Pre-Alloying: Pre-alloying all alloy and fine gold with aggressive stirring and fluxing is recommended to ensure a uniform mixture.
Step 1 — Pre-Alloying Temperatures:
- 10K: 1060°C – 1080°C / 1940°F – 1976°F
- 14K–18K: 1050°C – 1060°C / 1922°F – 1940°F
Step 2 — Casting Temperatures:
- 10K Alloyed Grain: 1055°C – 1075°C / 1931°F – 1967°F
- 14K Alloyed Grain: 1015°C – 1035°C / 1859°F – 1895°F
- 18K Alloyed Grain: 990°C – 1010°C / 1814°F – 1850°F
Melt temperature may vary with type of unit.
Flask Temperature: Normal recommended range is 540°C – 675°C / 1004°F – 1247°F, depending on flask size, karat, and jewelry type.
Fluxing: Fluxing white gold is extremely important for collecting oxides. Boric acid is the recommended flux. Do not use carbon fluxes or refining fluxes such as soda ash or saltpeter. Avoid flux in bottom-pour automatic casting units.
Quench Time: 10–12 minutes.
Investment Removal: Most standard investment removers will successfully remove investment powder. Use of aggressive acids is not recommended, as it causes stress corrosion and surface damage.
Scrap Mix: A 70% fresh–30% scrap mix is recommended. White gold alloy has approximately one-third the reusability of yellow gold alloys.
