Description

A flat hand or pillar file is the general-purpose file for flat work at the bench, and its safe edge is what lets you file right up to a shoulder without cutting the surface beside it. Grobet USA Swiss-pattern Flat Hand (Pillar) Precision Files, also called Hand or Pillar files and similar to Equalling files, are parallel in width, tapered in thickness, double-cut on both faces, with one edge single-cut and one edge safe (no teeth). They are supplied with a tang only, no handle, and have been made in Italy since 2015.

Features

  • Parallel in width, tapered in thickness, the classic Flat Hand (Pillar) geometry
  • Double-cut faces for efficient stock removal and controlled shaping
  • One single-cut edge for directional edge work
  • One safe edge (no teeth) to protect adjacent surfaces when filing to a shoulder
  • Available in four lengths and up to seven cut grades per length
  • Heat-tempered chrome alloy steel with a plain (untreated) finish
  • Tang only, no handle included
  • Swiss-pattern sizing and cut standards, manufactured in Italy since 2015

Notes

  • Swiss-pattern vs. Swiss Made: Swiss-pattern describes the shape, sizing, and cut standards established in Switzerland; it does not indicate Swiss manufacture. Grobet USA Swiss-pattern files have been made in Italy since 2015. Genuine Swiss-made files are the Glardon-Vallorbe files marked "Swiss Made."
  • Use a proper file handle on the tang for control and safety (sold separately).
  • Chalk the file and clean regularly with a file card to minimize pinning.
  • Apply pressure on the push stroke and lift on the return to preserve the teeth.
  • Use the safe edge when filing to a shoulder to protect adjacent surfaces.
