A spring ring is the clasp you reach for when a chain needs a secure, low-profile closure, and this open-top version is made to speed that job up at the bench. The jump ring at the top of each clasp is left unsoldered, so it hooks straight onto a chain end without opening or cutting anything first. These are by far the most popular way to buy spring rings. They are supplied in sterling silver and in yellow gold filled, sold by the pack of 12.
If a finished piece calls for a closed top, attach the clasp first and then close the jump ring with a laser welder or a spot welder. Never use a torch to solder the top ring closed. The heat destroys the tension of the internal spring and leaves the clasp nonfunctional.
