Controls are simple analog switches that are easy to use and easily serviced. The tank holds 3.5 quarts (3.3 liters) and runs a thermostatically adjustable heating element, so you can set your preferred temperature for ultimate performance. German made on/off controls handle both the heater and the timer, and the timer sets from 0 to 30 minutes. A stainless steel lid is included.
Items such as gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, amethyst and citrine are typically safe for ultrasonic cleaning.
Soft stones such as emeralds, opals, turquoise and pearls could be damaged. Be careful not to clean stones that may have many inclusions, because the ultrasonic waves, the heat or a sudden change in temperature may crack the stone, and be certain not to clean soft, water porous stones such as pearls, opals, turquoise, amber and ivory. Ultrasonics do not remove tarnish.
Do not submerge watches, as damage to the watch may occur. To clean a metal watchband, use the included holder designed for this function and place the holder in the basket so it does not touch the bottom of the tank, with the head and movement of the watch suspended above the water. Never place a non-waterproofed watch in water or in this ultrasonic, and place only the metal band in the water. At your own risk, and before attempting this, always be certain the watch stem is fully inserted or screwed all of the way in.
It is not recommended that ultrasonics be used in a continuous mode. Items left in an ultrasonic for extended periods of time can be damaged, and 95% of cleaning is performed in the first 30 seconds of use.
Do not place items to be cleaned directly on the tank bottom, as damage to the transducer may occur. Damage to the transducer that results from placing items on the bottom of the tank will void the warranty, and dents and scars on the tank bottom are evidence of items being placed inappropriately in the tank without a basket.
The 123.663CLIP basket and the 123.627 single rack are meant to be bent to fit in the tank properly. Bend the basket handles so the bottom of the basket does not touch the bottom of the tank, and bend the single rack so its hooks are submersed in the ultrasonic bath. Both accessories are meant to be modified for use.
Always keep the solution topped off in the tank. Do not operate your ultrasonic with less than 3/4 of the tank full. Ultrasonics work best with a full tank, usually 7/8 of total capacity.
Always use a non-ammoniated, non-flammable ultrasonic cleaning solution. Ultrasonics will not work without a cleaning solution. Most ultrasonic cleaning solutions are concentrates, so pre-mix the concentrate to the recommended water and solution ratio before adding it to the tank rather than pouring concentrate straight in. Warm solution works best, so use the heater. The strong ultrasonic action on more powerful machines will also warm the bath naturally. For best results, let the ultrasonic run for a few minutes with solution in it before cleaning an item. That is called degassing, it matters for industrial cleaning applications, and it reduces the time an item needs in the tank before maximum cleaning is reached.
The best practice for economizing your cleaning solution is to do this every morning before turning the unit on. The solution inside the tank settles overnight, with the dirty particles sinking to the bottom. Carefully pour the top solution into a container until you reach the dirty solution on the bottom, and save the clean solution for re-use. Pour the dirty solution through a fine mesh screen and check the screen for valuables. Dispose of the dirty solution responsibly, pour the saved solution back into the tank and top off with fresh pre-mixed solution.
