Gold Guardian II Positive Locking 6.1mm Earring Backs with Comfort Triggers

Setting an earring on a post that has to survive daily wear calls for a clutch that locks rather than merely grips. The Guardian II Positive Locking Earring Backs, also sold as Guardian II Ear Nuts or Guardian II Safety Earring Backs, are a 6.1mm outside diameter clutch with comfort triggers, made to fit a 0.89mm (0.035") diameter post. The triggers snap closed around a groove on the matching ear post and release only when both tabs are squeezed at the same time. The Guardian II improves on the original Guardian design with slightly larger triggers that are bent over to present a smooth surface for easier unlocking. WR Cobb makes these findings in the USA from 100% recycled gold, in 14K and 18K yellow or white, and is certified to ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental) and ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) standards.

Positive locking earring backs have been available since the French introduced the ZOP system in the late twentieth century. The original ZOP system and some successor brands are no longer produced, and Guardian backs have become the dominant locking system in the market.

To keep the mechanism working, clean Guardian II ear nuts with alcohol only. Do not use polishing compounds, rouge, or other cleaning agents. Avoid excessive heat and exposure to small particles or residue, as these may affect the working mechanics of the ear nuts.
