V-Line Engraving Block

An engraving block clamps a piece and rotates it under the graver so you can cut a line without moving your hand, and this one is the budget entry point to that setup. The V-Line Engraving Block from Value Line is a value-priced, economy-grade block made in India and intended for students and beginners working to a budget. Unlike the blocks it resembles, the top jaws on this unit are integrated and not removable.

This is the 5" standard size block, where the 5" measurement refers to the maximum width of the round block, and it ships with a base included. The jaw width is 2-5/8", with a height of 1-1/2", the maximum jaw opening is 3", and the unit weighs approximately 21 lbs.

• Clean it before you use it. Because this is an all-steel rather than stainless unit manufactured in a high-humidity environment, the maker applies a heavy coating of cosmoline, a rust-inhibiting compound, to the surfaces. Before placing the block in service, disassemble the unit and wipe it down thoroughly with a dry cloth. Do not use water or a damp cloth, because moisture will cause rust.
