Whaley Sliding Hammer

The Whaley Sliding Hammer allows jewelers to move metal with remarkable care and precision. Designed by goldsmith Jay Whaley, this revolutionary tool makes it far easier to deliver precise hammer blows in the smallest and most demanding work areas.

The hammer features a slender, hollow head that houses a long punch sliding freely back and forth within the body. The punch stays perfectly aligned inside the hammer, ensuring each successive strike lands exactly where intended. This alignment gives the user exceptional control over hammer force — making even the most difficult bezel setting achievable, including work with softer stones. The head swivels freely and the punches rotate, allowing the tool to be used comfortably in any position.

Ideal applications include stone setting, channel setting, bezel setting, riveting, texturing, repoussé, and chasing work.

The handle is crafted from Dalbergia Sissoo, a rosewood commercially grown in Pakistan, and is finely finished for a comfortable, professional grip. Optional sets of stainless steel rivet punches, round punches, domed round punches, and rectangular punches are available separately.
