Stone setting begins with cutting: a twist drill opens the pilot hole, a ball or hart bur shapes the bearing, and a setting or cup bur finishes the seat the stone drops into. This 30 piece kit gathers those cutting shapes in one box, drawn from the Otto Frei Swiss Burs line of Swiss made Tungsten Vanadium burs together with Swiss and high speed steel twist drills.
Tungsten Vanadium burs are machine made to ultra high precision tolerances, producing uniformly consistent geometry that cuts precious metal smoothly and cleanly, with no chatter or drag. That precision manufacturing sets them apart from High Speed Steel (HSS) burs, which are individually hand cut and therefore vary from piece to piece. Modern equipment combined with Swiss steel hardening expertise makes this line a bestseller among professional jewelers.
Every bur and drill in the set runs on a 3/32" diameter shank, and the kit arrives organized in a plastic bur box for bench ready storage.
Tungsten Vanadium burs are not as long lasting as USA made High Speed Steel burs, but they typically cost less and offer superior uniformity.
