Description
Sterling silver sheet stock for cutting, forming, and fabricating bezels, backplates, blanks, and formed components at the bench.
LeachGarner LG422 Anti-Tarnish Sterling Silver Sheet is a low-tarnish, fire-scale-resistant sterling silver alloy milled by LeachGarner, the leading mill house in the United States. It is brighter and harder than traditional sterling silver, and its germanium content forms a protective oxide on the surface that resists tarnishing and fire scale, so work cleans up faster and stays bright longer.
Sheet is sold by the inch, in units of one 6" × 1" piece. It is cut to order in full-inch increments along the 6" width, from a minimum of 6" × 1" up to a maximum sheet size of 6" × 12". To order a continuous 6" × 6" piece, add a quantity of 6 to your cart. To specify multiple cut sizes in the same gauge, order the total number of inches and include cutting instructions in the comment field at checkout.
All Anti-Tarnish LG422 sterling silver sheet ships in ½ hard temper, Vickers hardness 105–118. Dead soft or annealed LG422 has a Vickers hardness of 60–70, and the sheet anneals easily with a torch or kiln.
Annealing note: Heat the metal to a glowing pink or dull red using a steady, even flame; a darkened room helps you read the color change accurately. This alloy contains germanium, and if it is heated insufficiently before quenching, it may crack. Let the piece air cool until the glow is no longer visible with the lights on. A slight glow may remain with the lights off, then water quench.
