ブラックオニキス（ブラックアゲートとも呼ばれます）は、黒く染色されたカルセドニーです。カルセドニーは、肉眼では見えない微細な石英結晶で構成されています。天然のブラックカルセドニーは非常に希少で、市場に出回るブラックカルセドニーのほぼすべては、深く均一な黒色を得るために化学処理されたグレーカルセドニーです。ブラックオニキスは宝石市場で最も売れているカルセドニーであり、アールデコジュエリーデザインの定番として豊かな歴史を持っています。
