Fretz HMR-301 Large Stretching Hammer

The Fretz HMR-301 Large Stretching Hammer is an extra-large silversmith hammer designed to move thicker, heavy-gauge metals with less physical effort. Introduced in 2015 by Bill and Jordan Fretz, these hammers are engineered so that the weight of the tool does the work—reducing strain on your arms and shoulders during extended forming sessions.

The HMR-301 features an arched head with a curved broad cross-pein face, making it an ideal tool for stretch forming heavy-gauge metal. Stretch forming is an ancient metalworking technique in which metal is hammered from the inside of a vessel or shape to alter its gauge. The curved head follows the arm in a natural arc, allowing you to work fairly deep concave metal surfaces easily against a wooden form or flat anvil surface.

These extra-large hammers are considerably larger than anything previously offered in the Fretz lineup. The handle is well-formed, smooth to the touch, and finely finished with a thicker diameter than the Fretz Large Silversmith line. The head is cast from 422 stainless steel with fully polished ends.
