A pillar needle file works on a flat surface on a small part, in a slot or against a shoulder where a full-size file cannot reach. Glardon-Vallorbe pillar needle files, also called equalling needle files or flat needle files, are the genuine Swiss-made standard for precision metalwork. These are not merely Swiss-pattern files; they are manufactured in Vallorbe, Switzerland by Glardon-Vallorbe, the maker behind the quality that professional jewelers, metalsmiths, and watchmakers have relied on for generations.
North American craftsmen may recognize these files under the Grobet Swiss name. Since 2015, however, files sold under the Grobet brand have been made in Italy. If your file is marked Swiss Made, it was made by Glardon-Vallorbe of Vallorbe, Switzerland, and that distinction matters at the bench. These files are manufactured to precise production standards using a combination of machine cutting and hand craftsmanship, producing the most accurate, best-cutting, and longest-lasting needle files available. Made from the finest heat-tempered chrome alloy steel, they deliver the right feel, action, and balance that true craftsmen demand, with superior performance across all metals.
These pillar files have round handles and come in five lengths and up to six cut grades, from extra coarse (00) to extra fine (6). Length is measured from where the teeth begin to the end of the file.
