Description

GRS Ready Option Kit adds a GRS mounting interface to a custom-built John Frei Workbench for secure, repeatable attachment of GRS fixtures and accessories. This is a factory add-on applied during construction and is not a retrofit service.

Notes

  • Cannot be retrofitted to an existing bench; must be specified at time of order.
  • The GRS fixed mounting plate can be mounted to an “as stock” John Frei Workbench top using 4 of the 6 screws due to the standard steel bench block; many customers have reported adequate holding strength with this configuration.

how would i retrofit this on my own for an existing frei bench?

**Purchase a 104.559 GRS Optional Steel Mounting Plate** You may need to remove the existing 4 x 4 steel plate installed on your bench if it interferes with the 6-inch wide GRS Optional plate. You can mount the GRS MP as is by using the appropriate size and type of wood screws with countersunk heads (not included, readily available at hardware stores). While it won’t sit flush with the benchtop, you may prefer this setup, in which case installation is complete. If you prefer a flush fit, remove the existing 4 x 4 steel plate and use a woodworker’s routing tool or chisel to ensure the GRS MP lies flush with the benchtop. You may also route the side edge (thickness of the benchtop) for a fully flush finish, though this is less common.
