A jeweler's bench carries the work at seat height and keeps the tools, drawers, and catch trays within reach of the chair, and the Maple John Frei Double Bank Custom Workbench (Part #013.015) is built for that job at professional scale. Master cabinetmakers in California build each bench to order from select-grade maple, so the bench is made for the shop that ordered it rather than pulled from stock.
The solid butcher block maple top is 1-1/2" (38 mm) thick and rides on solid wood legs, with cabinetmaker-quality oak or maple-veneered plywood sides and back and a double bank of drawers under the working surface. Overall the bench measures 61-1/2" x 26" x 38" (1562 x 660 x 965 mm). A natural Watco oil finish brings up the grain of the maple and protects it, and custom finishes are available on request.

Notes
Each bench is tailored to your specifications, with custom modifications, finishes, and configurations available. The solid maple construction also takes refinishing or further customization at home.
Build time runs 4–6 weeks. The bench ships fully assembled by truck freight, FOB Chico, CA, with the crating charge included and freight charges billed separately.
Maple has a tighter, finer grain and slightly more weight than oak. Both woods build an excellent bench, so the choice comes down to preference in color, texture, and feel.

Just got it yesterday and it is literally the nicest thing I've ever owned, it is extremely sturdy and ergonomic and just a very well made peice of furniture in general, the huge amount of drawer space is a godsend. I don't think money can buy a nicer bench

It costs a pretty penny, but the craftsmanship is incredible. The drawers slide nicely, and every inch of it is nice and smooth. Pretty sure this bench will last me forever.

I'd like to see OF put more effort into their delivery service. My delivery was a real hassle. OF uses a standard freight company, with curb delivery (which literally means the curb). The desk itself weighs about 230 lbs, and the crated desk weighs even more. It comes fully assembled, so if you need to move it from the curb to another place, you have difficulty doing by yourself. If you need anything like "white glove" delivery, you'll need to set that up yourself. I did mine thru the delivery company the OF uses and it was super expensive and quite a mess.

When I was shopping for a bench 35 years ago I wanted the best I could find because I would be spending most of my life in front of it. Well I have and with the spills and burn marks on it now, I still love it. Yes this is the best and defining quality.

I purchased this bench 12 years ago and have never regretted the purchase. Solid high quality construction. With over 20,000 Hours of use and it is still the most comfortable / solid bench in our shop. We special ordered an upgraded version with a white layout bread board and also had them add the GRS bench pin system. I love the formed no seam stainless steel lap catch tray. The solid 2 inch thick maple top shows only minor wear. I would recommend this to anyone who spends considerable time at their bench.

I took the plunge and purchased the best bench in the industry. This by far was the one tool I wanted to complete my jewelers wish list. I wonder if Mr. Frei remembers delivering this bench to my house ten or so years ago in Phoenix Arizona (purchased @ the Tucson show). Not by far the most expensive purchase I have made at the tool show but by far the most used and enjoyed.. (Yes I do remember but that was a bit more than 10 years ago...and thanks again! Steve Frei)

I purchased this workbench a few years ago and I love it. Very solid construction with quality materials. The drawers are handy for storing my supplies or tools. I don't like the two top locking cabinets that much because the two drawers in each cabinet eat up so much space and only small items can be stored in them, but they are handy. All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase. It will last for many, many years of jewelry making!

Im waiting on mine to be built right now (very exciting!!!) And I'm wondering how heavy it is inside the crate and outside the crate? Will 2 regular strength men be able to bring it inside without problems? And also any tips for moving it?
The double bank benches as crated are right around 300 lbs. Once out of the crate they weigh around 250 lbs. Unless you have a big 4 wheel dolly or a fork lift, best to uncrate your workbench right out of the truck before moving it in inside. Once uncrated it can be lighten up a bit for moving by carefully removing catch trays, tool trays and drawers but that is not necessary. Then with the aid of a quality 2 wheel hand truck/dolly and some packing blankets one strong person can move it. If it needs to be hand carried then you need 2 strong persons. Don't worry too much if in moving it you caused a ding or a scratch. Since the bench is wood it will clean up real nice with a little sandpaper and some TLC.

I purchased your bench during COVID, at the time I could customize with the GRS system, but could swing both at the same time. Could you please advise what parts I would need to make the bench pin level adjustable? Also is they a shelf that would hold a heavy ball vise that I already own. Thank you in advance for your help.
