How we source our metal
Cut hinge knuckles, tube settings, and structural components from stock that runs straight and seamless. This is sterling silver seamless hollow round tubing, an alloy of .925 silver and .075 copper from Harmony, supplied in 12" (304.8 mm) lengths with outside diameters from 1.62–5.86 mm (0.064"–0.231") and made in the USA. Smooth, continuous walls give a clean, bright edge around stones and along hinge knuckles.

Notes
For hinge making: Select a wire diameter slightly smaller than the tubing inside diameter so the hinge pin turns freely without binding.
For tube setting faceted stones:
- Choose a tubing outside diameter approximately 0.5 mm larger than the stone and an inside diameter smaller than the stone, so the stone rests on a seat instead of falling through.
- Use a setting bur the same size as the stone. If the stone falls between bur sizes, choose tubing the next size smaller and expand it slightly with a center punch.
- This method produces a subtle taper in the setting that can be visually appealing and secure.
- Bezel setting tools such as Part #153.154MA can speed up and standardize tube settings.
