This punch is used by Kent Raible to bezel set tall deep sided stones.  Kent would modify a punch to make these himself--and you can too-but most folks would rather just buy one. You do need to be skilled at grinding to shape, hardening steel and polishing to get it as perfect as these punches are.

This punch is made by Chris Pruitt in the USA for Kent Raible and Otto Frei.  It is a beautiful handmade 4" long 5 mm diameter punch with the perfect shape and finish for the job.

The punch is used for tightening bezel material around the top of the bezel for tall deep sided stones.  Successfully and professionally setting this kind of bezel-stone combination can be difficult to get right.  This punch is used with the tapered side down on the top edge of the bezel.  The rest of the punch is facing the stone.  When executed correctly, the result is a series of ridges made against the top of the bezel that hold the stone securely and give an interesting pattern.
