Product Details

The new and improved Mk.V Jewelers saw frames, also called fret saws.  Now stronger, with improved blade clamps.  The new clamps have witness holes, so you can see the back of the blade to make sure you've really grabbed it.  The extra length in the clamps also gives the clamps more to hold on to, for improved grip.  The new witness hole lets sawdust drop out of the bottom of the clamps, to keep them grabbing solidly.  The frames now have the same triangulated truss design that makes the Mk. IV saws so much stronger.  A major improvement over the older MK. III design.

The Knew Concepts Screw-Tension Saw Frames are the original precision fret saws that set the standard for control and rigidity in jewelry sawing. These economy version delivers ultra-precise blade tension through a knurled tension nut at the top of the frame. The rigid, heat-treated aluminum construction minimizes flex, improving accuracy and reducing blade breakage. When balance, feel, lightness, and stiffness matter most, this is the jeweler’s saw frame of choice.

Part No. Throat Depth

149.655 5" (125 mm)

Key Features

  • Precision screw-tensioning system for exact, repeatable blade tension.
  • Rigid, heat-treated aluminum frame reduces flex for cleaner, straighter cuts.
  • Knurled gold-tone blade holders for secure clamping and easy blade changes.
  • Extremely lightweight frame minimizes fatigue during extended sawing sessions.
  • Full tension achieved through the screw mechanism—no need to flex the frame against your chest.

How to Install & Tension the Blade

  1. Insert the saw blade with teeth pointing downward and outward.
  2. Secure both blade ends using the gold-tone clamps.
  3. Tighten the top knurled tension knob until the blade produces a clear, high “ping.”
  4. To change blades, slightly loosen the clamps, replace the blade, and re-tension with the screw knob.

Why Blade Tension Matters

The purpose of any jeweler’s saw is to hold a fine, toothed blade tightly and accurately in line. Proper tension ensures smooth, controlled cutting, prevents wandering, and extends blade life. The Knew Concepts frame achieves high, stable tension through its rigid truss design and precision screw adjustment.

Performance & Ergonomics

  • Balanced and lightweight for long hours of precise work.
  • Optimized stiffness provides superior control and stability.
  • Compatible with standard 5-1/8" unpinned jeweler’s saw blades, including spiral and fine-gauge types.

Use & Care Tips

  • If the blade slips, clean the clamp faces and ensure even tightening.
  • Keep blade alignment straight for best cutting results.
  • Store with the blade relaxed if the saw will not be used for an extended period.

What’s Included

  • Knew Concepts screw-tension saw frame (select 3" or 5" throat)
  • Printed instructions for blade setup and tensioning

Optional Upgrades

Heavier-duty 8" Mk IV versions are available separately for users needing additional throat depth and maximum frame stiffness.
