The Durston Smooth Surface Wire Ingot Mold — also referred to as a strip ingot mold — is machined from a solid block of steel, producing ingots with far smoother surfaces than those made with economy-grade wire ingot molds. The precision machining results in cleaner castings that require less cleanup before rolling or further fabrication. Use this mold to cast ingots in a variety of sizes suitable for making stock, rolling into wire shapes with a rolling mill, or traditional metalsmithing fabrication. Overall length of this strip ingot mold is 15", including the handle. Grooves are present on both sides of the mold. Durston model 1614.

Steel will naturally rust. To prevent rust, keep your ingot mold covered in a light coating of machine oil when not in use. If rust does develop, remove it with an abrasive and reapply oil. The presence of rust does not diminish the functional use of this tool.
