Copper Sulfate Powder 1-1/2lb jar

Part # 145.120 In Stock Weight -- lb -- g
Current price $6.95

Copper sulfate powder is used for etching mild steel, offering a safer alternative to traditional etching acids. Sold in a convenient 1-1/2 lb jar, this powder is mixed with sodium chloride (common table salt) and warm water to create an effective etching solution. As etching progresses, the characteristic blue solution gradually fades, turning colorless when the process is complete — providing a clear visual indicator of when the steel has been fully etched.

Features

  • Used for etching mild steel plates
  • Mixed in a 1:1 ratio with sodium chloride (table salt) to prevent copper from depositing on the steel and halting the etching process
  • Solution changes color during use — starts blue and turns colorless when etching is finished
  • Etching solution can be reused multiple times; note that each subsequent use will require more time to achieve the same etch depth
  • Sold in a 1-1/2 lb jar

How to Mix the Etching Solution

Combine the following ingredients to prepare a standard copper sulfate etching solution:

  1. 100 grams copper sulfate powder
  2. 100 grams sodium chloride (cooking salt)
  3. 1 liter warm water

Stir until fully dissolved before use. The sodium chloride prevents copper from plating out onto the steel surface, which would otherwise stop the etching process prematurely.
