Opal is the world's most popular phenomenal gemstone, with many cultures believing that Opal had supernatural origins and power. While precious Opals display play-of-color, not all Opal possess this phenomena and are called Common or Potch Opals. Opals can also possess other phenomenon's, such as chatoyancy, which is a cat's eye effect caused when light reflects off needle-like inclusions. Opal requires special care due to being extremely soft and can craze from loss of moisture. Clean with warm, soapy water. Avoid use of ultrasonic and steam cleaner.
