Glardon-Vallorbe Balance Wheel Escapement Files are Swiss made precision tools designed for watchmakers and fine metalwork. These files feature square handles and a distinctive curved surface on the cut side — similar in shape to barrette files, tapered to a point with a safe (uncut) top, but with a convex cutting face rather than a flat one. This profile makes them especially suited for working on balance wheels and escapement components.
All length measurements are taken from the tip to the end of the cut and do not include the tang or handle. Measurements of width and thickness are given at the thickest point.
Glardon-Vallorbe uses a grading system numbered 0 (coarsest) to 10 (finest). The higher the cut number, the finer the tooth pattern. Cut 10 is an extremely fine cut, rated at 156 lines per square centimeter, and is used by watchmakers for polishing pivots and balance wheels. These files are also commonly referred to as watchmakers files.
