How to choose

  • Material: Carbide for longest life and hard alloys (e.g., platinum), HSS for smooth cutting & long service life, Tungsten Vanadium for everyday value.
  • Size & shank: Match bur diameter to the seat or groove; most jewelers burs and drill are standardized with 3/32″ (2.35 mm) shanks for quick swaps.
  • Task: Hart/setting for seats, ball for general removal and rounding, cup for rounding wire ends, cylinder/wheel for flats and cleanup.
  • Technique: Use proper speed and a touch of cutting lube for cooler, cleaner cuts and longer tool life.
