The Fretz MKR-7 Maker Double Ended Insert Hammer brings versatile chasing capability to jewelers and metalsmiths with seven interchangeable metal inserts and one nylon insert included in the set. Use the metal inserts for a wide variety of chasing tasks — fluting, embossing, and creating curves, contours, and textures — while the nylon end allows you to work metal without marring the surface. Both ends secure their faces with a hex screw, but each end features a different hole diameter: the metal inserts fit only on the narrow end of the hammer. The larger nylon end accepts the same diameter tips used on the Fretz HMR-7 insert hammer; see part number 137.207A for the optional set of 9 nylon replacement tips. An Allen wrench is supplied to secure all faces.
The MKR-7 is part of the Fretz Maker line — developed by Bill and Jordan Fretz in direct response to low-quality knock-offs entering the market. Maker hammers deliver the same quality and balance jewelers expect from the premium Fretz line at a more accessible price point. Heads are hand-polished 420 stainless steel, and handles are beautifully formed, oil-finished North American ash. The cost savings come from a slight redesign of head shapes and the substitution of ash for the more expensive paduk wood used in the premium line — without compromising craftsmanship, style, or functionality.
