The Meiji MA794 .5X Auxiliary Lens is an optional optic designed specifically for the Meiji EMZ-8TR Trinoc Microscope Head. Because the EMZ-8TR uses different optics than the standard EMZ-8, it requires its own auxiliary lens — the MA794 is not interchangeable with lenses intended for other Meiji heads.
The .5X is the most popular auxiliary lens choice for this microscope, and it's easy to see why. By adding the MA794, you extend the working distance from 104mm to 174mm, creating generous clearance for hands, tools, and workpieces beneath the objective — a significant advantage when performing detailed jewelry repair, stone setting, or precision metalwork.
The trade-off is a reduction in maximum magnification: with 10x eyepieces, the upper limit drops from 45x to 22.5x. For most jewelry and bench work, this is not a limitation — the majority of tasks are performed at lower magnifications where the added working room provides a clear practical benefit.
