Boulder Opal is found exclusively in Queensland, Australia, where veins and patches of precious opal form within rugged brown ironstone boulders. This gem was created over millions of years as rainwater dissolved silica from the earth's surface and deposited it into natural cavities within the ironstone. The ironstone backing provides a natural reinforcement that makes Boulder Opal more resistant to cracks and fractures compared to other opal types, resulting in exceptional durability.
This particular stone is classified as No Opalescence, meaning it contains none of the characteristic color play. Each stone's pattern remains entirely unique and visually striking — simply without the flashes of color associated with precious opal. The rough material for this stone originated near the city of Cunnamulla, Queensland.
Care: Clean with warm, soapy water. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, and sudden or rapid heat changes. Sold by the piece.
