Oregon Sunstone is a natural, all-American gem sourced exclusively from mines in the state of Oregon and received no treatment of any kind. A member of the Feldspar group, Oregon Sunstone is prized for its lively optical phenomenon caused by flat, reflective copper inclusions contained within the stone. This distinctive sparkly luster is known as aventurescence — commonly referred to as Schiller — and gives each stone a dynamic, light-catching quality unlike any other gem.
Oregon Sunstone is expensive to mine: a ton of raw rock typically yields only about a pound of Sunstone, and only a fraction of that reaches gem quality. These 6x4mm oval cabochons are Fine Quality stones — transparent to semi-transparent — displaying a body color ranging from light orange to light red, with aventurescence throughout. Some stones exhibit attractive bi-color characteristics, adding further individuality to each piece.
