Moonstone is a member of the feldspar group mineral orthoclase and consists of alternating layers of the minerals albite and orthoclase. When light hits between these layers, it scatters and appears to roll or billow across the gem, creating a phenomenon called adularescence. Moonstone's milky sheen resembles the effect of moonlight so closely that it was believed in Hindu mythology to be made of moonbeams and to bring good luck.
These round cabochons display a warm peach body color with a rolling white adularescence. Moonstone is one of the official birthstones of June, making these stones a natural choice for birthstone jewelry, heirloom pieces, and fine gemstone work. The stones are untreated and are safe for stone-in-place casting at the lowest temperature settings.
Clean with warm, soapy water only. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners.
