Buff Files from Glardon-Vallorbe are not files in the classic sense — they are ceramic-coated finishing and burnishing tools shaped like escapement files. Instead of reaching for emery sticks, fine abrasive paper, or abrasive stones, you can now use familiar escapement file shapes for precise finishing in hard-to-reach places. This set of 6 gives you the most useful escapement file profiles in a single, ready-to-use collection.

Buff Files are coated with a composite that includes synthetic diamond particles. Compared to conventional abrasive grits, the G10 rating falls between 500–800 grit (30–20 micron) under normal pressure, and closer to 900–1200 grit (20–15 micron) when used with light pressure. The coating is anti-corrosive, so Buff Files resist rust, and they last up to 10 times longer than a wooden buff.

These tools file and polish simultaneously, leaving crisp delineations between details and planes — unlike rubber wheels, which can blur fine edges. Their stiffness allows you to create sharp edges and reach confined areas with control. When working on soft materials like gold, occasional cleaning is recommended using an ultrasonic cleaner, a quick dip in alcohol, or Bergeon Rodico cleaning rubber.
