Otto Frei carries many New Old Stock numbers of genuine Swiss Made liner gravers. Some of this stock dates from 50 years ago — or more — and pre-dates the factory conversion to Glardon-Vallorbe branding. These NOS liner gravers may be branded with trademarks that have been retired by the UMV factory in Vallorbe, Switzerland. All of these Swiss Made liner gravers were made in the town of Vallorbe, Switzerland.

LO0413 Vallorbe shading gravers are still offered by the factory at minimum order requirements and prices that make ordering difficult for distributors & users.  We hope things may change in the future.  This last remaining LO0413 stock now has a price that reflects today's pricing.

If a number is not available for purchase, it is sold out and no longer available.

Understanding Liner Gravers

Liner gravers are defined by the width of the cutting edges and the number of lines the graver will cut in a single stroke. The width number refers to the size of the lines and the space between them — not the total width of the mark the graver makes. To determine the true width of a liner graver, find the distance between lines for the given width number and multiply by the number of lines.

The first number is the width number; the second number is the distance between lines:

Width Number Distance Between Lines
6 0.080 mm
8 0.100 mm
10 0.125 mm
12 0.150 mm
16 0.200 mm
18 0.227 mm
20 0.250 mm

Example: A 10 x 12 liner graver has a true width of 1.5 mm (12 lines × 0.125 mm). A 20 x 20 liner graver has a true width of 5.0 mm (20 lines × 0.250 mm).

Note: "True width" refers to the width of the cut the graver makes in the metal, not the physical width of the graver itself. Measurements are approximate.
