Tanzanite is found in only one location in the entire world — Tanzania, in Eastern Africa. Discovered in 1962, tanzanite is a relative newcomer on the gemstone market, yet it has grown incredibly popular among jewelers and collectors alike. This gem is strongly pleochroic, displaying different colors when viewed from different directions. Pure blue or violetish-blue hues are prized over bluish-purple hues. Tanzanite should be handled with care, as it is sensitive to temperature changes. Tanzanite is the birthstone of December.
