Our American standard wire and sheet gauge has sizes for uncoated sheet & plate iron and steel from using the B & S numerical ratings from 0 gauge (the thickest) to 36 gauge (the thinnest) on one side of the gauge with decimal equivalents in inches on the other side of the gauge.

The B & S stands for Brown & Sharpe, also called AWG for American Wire Gauge and refers to the standards set by Brown & Sharpe for measuring the thickness (or diameter of wire) of uncoated sheet & plate iron and steel. The higher the gauge number, the smaller the diameter and the thinner the wire or sheet.
