The Value Line 6 Spline Ring Stretcher & Ring Reducer is a professional-grade bench tool designed to stretch and reduce plain gold and silver wedding bands. This upright ring stretcher features a 6-spline mandrel graduated in USA ring sizes 1–15 that expands on the downstroke of the handle, providing smooth, controlled enlargement of non-ferrous, non-stone-set plain wedding bands.
The 6-spline design delivers a gentler stretching action compared to 4-spline stretchers, distributing force more evenly and placing less stress on the ring during sizing. Stretching is a gradual process, and the additional splines help prevent the sudden deformation that can occur with fewer-spline units.
What distinguishes this tool from similarly styled units is the inclusion of a smooth, polished double-sided band reducing plate. Most comparable ring stretcher/reducer combinations feature crudely finished reducing plates; this unit's plate is finished to a standard on par with Italian versions, helping minimize marring during the reduction process. The double-sided plate shares the same range of holes on each face, but the two sides differ in the slope of their depressions – one side features a more steeply cut profile – allowing the operator to select the appropriate side for compressing and slightly size-shrinking narrow, domed-shaped bands.
Important Operator Notes: Carefully inspect all bands for previous signs of sizing before stretching. Bands that have been previously sized and soldered can split at the seam if stretching is attempted. Seamless precious metal wedding bands (gold and platinum) can be enlarged using the vertical ring stretcher; the amount of enlargement depends entirely on the thickness and type of band. Thin bands size up less than thicker bands. The reducing plate is used to slightly reduce the size of plain round precious metal (gold, silver, and platinum) wedding bands – size reduction is typically no more than 0.5 of a USA finger size and depends on the thickness and width of the band.
